The former head of Yandex, Tigran Khudaverdyan, filed an appeal against the decision of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg to uphold the EU sanctions imposed against him due to the conflict in Ukraine .

According to the court, the complaint was registered on November 16.

Khudaverdyan came under EU sanctions on March 15. The explanations to the sanctions list stated that the former head of the Yandex.News service, Lev Gershenzon (recognized as a foreign agent in RUSSIA), accused the company of serving as a “key element in hiding information” from users about the operation in Ukraine.

Khudaverdyan was the managing DIRECTOR of the Yandex group of companies. Hours before sanctions were imposed on him, he was also appointed CEO of the company in Russia. The next day he left the board of directors and the post of deputy general director of Yandex NV

Last August, Khudaverdyan filed a lawsuit in the European Court in Luxembourg against the EU Council, which imposed sanctions against him.

However, at the beginning of last September, the European Court decided to leave the sanctions against Khudaverdyan in force, considering that he was still associated with Yandex as a consultant in the Public Interest Fund established by the company.

Tigran Khudaverdyan was born on December 28, 1981 in Yerevan. Graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov. In April 2006, he began working at Yandex as a project manager; subsequently managed several services, including Yandex.Browser and Yandex.Navigator.

In 2015, he became the CEO of Yandex.Taxi, and in 2018, after the company merged with Uber assets in Russia and the CIS, he headed this joint venture. A year later, he was appointed to the position of managing director of the Yandex group of companies.
