Austria does not intend to advocate an embargo on the supply of oil and gas from RUSSIA. Chancellor Karl Nehammer stated this at a meeting with journalists, Kronen Zeitung reports.
Thus, when asked by a journalist about the possibility of imposing an embargo on the supply of energy resources from Russia, Nehammer replied: “Sanctions make sense only if they weaken the one to whom they are intended, and not the one who imposes them. Nevertheless, it is a terrible feeling to depend on Russian gas <...>. But my job is to secure the supply.”
In addition, the politician said that Austria is waiting for written details from Gazprom on the transition to payment in rubles in gas contracts. “Let's judge not about announcements, but about facts. OMV [the Austrian oil and gas company] has not yet received any notification and the companies have long-term contracts in euros until 2040,” he said.
