The US can harm its own long-term goals when it imposes sanctions on RUSSIA, said Anatoly Antonov, Russian ambassador to Washington. His words are given in the TELEGRAM channel of the Russian diplomatic mission.
“The United States seeks to put pressure not only on the Russian Federation, but also on developing states. To strike a blow at Russia's recently actively expanding ties with the so-called Global South. Doesn't the administration understand that with its steps it hits its own long-term goals? Antonov said.
In his opinion, emerging economies will see the harm that US policies are doing to their interests and turn their backs on Washington.
Washington, according to the ambassador, is trying to scare off partners from the Russian market and convince them that Moscow is under a "cap of restrictions." “Russia, not in words, but in deeds, has proved its ability to cope with attempts to stop its progress, to force it to give up its basic principles,” Antonov emphasized.
The day before, the United States imposed sanctions against Polymetal (engaged in the extraction of silver, gold and copper) and Polyus (engaged in gold mining), as well as VYGON Consulting (an independent national industry consultant on the development of the Russian fuel and energy complex), JSC LOMO (manufacturing optical, optical-electronic, opto-digital and opto-mechanical devices, systems and complexes).
Also, 46 people were included in the sanctions list. Among them are Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko, Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov, Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova, as well as the former HEAD of Polyus Pavel Grachev and co-owner of Russia's largest tobacco distributor Megapolis Igor Kesaev.
