Every adult citizen who has been vaccinated against the CORONAVIRUS in the US state of Washington will be able to get a marijuana cigarette for free. The decision was made by the State Liquor and Cannabis Board as part of a strategy to vaccinate more of the population, writes The New York Times (NYT).
The promotion will last until July 12. During this period, Washington-authorized marijuana dealers will be able to give out one free cigarette to people over the age of 21 who have received the vaccine. In addition, adults who have been vaccinated can claim free beer, wine or a cocktail, the NYT notes.
As of June 7, more than 49% of the population in Washington state had been fully vaccinated, with 58% receiving at least one dose, according to the newspaper's database. In total, more than 42% of residents in the United States have been vaccinated.
Washington is not the only state offering marijuana for vaccinations. Earlier in June, a dispensary in Arizona launched a similar campaign, providing free marijuana cigarettes or gummies to residents over the age of 21 who received the vaccine. In New York on April 20, activists from the New York Marijuana Justice movement offered one free roll of cannabis to those who had been vaccinated against the coronavirus. Then the people lined up in a long line.
