Zakharova commented on Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race.

Joe Biden

In announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race, incumbent US President Joe Biden did not specify "where exactly" he was withdrawing. This was reported on the Telegram channel by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova .

She also called for an investigation into American media and political circles, which, Zakharova believes, concealed "the true state of affairs regarding his mental state."

Biden noted that withdrawing his candidacy is in the interests of the United States and the Democratic Party. The US presidential election will be held on November 5, 2024. The Democratic National Convention, at which the party will confirm the nominee, will take place in August.

Calls for Biden to abandon his reelection bid have been circulating for weeks, following his unsuccessful debate with Republican Donald Trump.

Both prominent figures—former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi—and donors appealed to him to withdraw from the election. The situation was further exacerbated by his positive test.Biden made his declaration of COVID-19 on July 17. The president himself had previously publicly refused to withdraw his candidacy.
