The incidence of Covid-19 in Karelia has gone up due to the infection of children

In Karelia, 240 cases of covid-19 were registered in the 4th week of 2023, an increase of 20% compared to the previous week. This was reported in the republican department of Rospotrebnadzor. The greatest increase in the number of cases is observed in the age group of children under 17 years of age.

In addition, 5412 cases of ARVI and influenza were registered. Compared to the previous week, there is an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza among the total population by 1.4%. The incidence of SARS and influenza among the total population is higher than the epidemic threshold by 0.3%. The highest incidence is observed among children.

Over the past week, due to the increased incidence of SARS and influenza, activities have been suspended: 37 classes in 224 schools, 12 groups in 7 kindergartens. The Muezerskaya secondary school is completely closed for quarantine.

Earlier it became known that a surge in the incidence of CORONAVIRUS infection caused by a new dangerous strain, called Kraken, is expected in Karelia in February-March. According to experts, this type of coronavirus is highly contagious, as a result of which the infection is transmitted from person to person very quickly. At the same time, the Minister of HEALTH of the Republic, Mikhail Okhlopkov, noted that Kraken is able to show signs of avoiding immunity, as well as bypassing the protection provided by vaccines.
