From October 11, Japan will lift almost all entry restrictions for foreign tourists imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Hirokazu Matsuno, secretary-general of the Japanese cabinet, said during a briefing.
“The government from October 11 will lift the entry restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus. The issue of new entry visas for foreigners will be reviewed. The requirement to have a responsible person in Japan is abolished. The restriction on entry for tourists only on group tours is cancelled. The issuance of visas is being resumed,” he said.

The fact that the Japanese government will consider easing coronavirus restrictions on entry, Matsuno announced two weeks ago. Then he said that the authorities would make a decision based on the situation both inside the country and abroad. The day before Matsuno's announcement, his deputy, Seiji Kihara, told Fuji TV that the government was reviewing its border control policy, which limits entry to the country to 50,000 people a day, and will lift it in the not-too-distant future.
In early September, the Japanese authorities have already softened some anti-coronavirus measures: they increased the daily entry limit into the country from 20,000 to 50,000 people, and also canceled the mandatory COVID-19 test for arriving travelers who were vaccinated at least three times.
