Doctors see benefit in shortening coronavirus quarantine period

Reducing the quarantine period for CORONAVIRUS to seven days is due to the characteristics of the strains, such a decision will not entail negative consequences, experts interviewed by RBC believe.

“The current mutations of the coronavirus are characterized by a rapid incubation period. In this regard, quarantine conditions are also changing, everything is interconnected with the mechanism of infection and the duration of the stay [of the virus in the body], with how the virus is detected, ”said the HEAD of the laboratory for vaccine prevention and immunotherapy of allergic diseases of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums. According to the immunologist, if earlier the incubation period of the coronavirus was up to two weeks, now it has been reduced to three to five days.

“This is the development of the virus: from the time of infection to the appearance of critical manifestations, the incubation period is reduced, so the time [quarantine] is quite enough. In general, we will not see any negative manifestations [from the initiative],” Nikolai Malyshev, an infectious disease specialist, MD, told RBC.
