Experts interviewed by RBC disagreed on whether obesity could be a consequence of the coronavirus.
Earlier, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Endocrinology of the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov Yuri Poteshkin, Sputnik reported. He explained that patients gain up to 10-15% of body weight with a sharp change in diet and lack of movement with coronavirus. According to him, in the acute phase of the coronavirus, patients can lose weight. In this case, you should eat more long carbohydrates and proteins.
“There is no trend [of obesity after coronavirus], it is not observed in all patients. Another question is that in severe cases of coronavirus disease, some patients experience carbohydrate metabolism disorders,” Olga Demicheva, an endocrinologist and a member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes Mellitus (EASD), told RBC.
According to her, people who have had coronavirus can get type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
