More than 18 million people worldwide were infected with the CORONAVIRUS last week, World HEALTH Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. The briefing was broadcast on the WHO YouTube channel.
“Last week, more than 18 million cases [of infection] were recorded,” he said.
The omicron strain continues to spread rapidly around the world, so the next few weeks will be important for health services, Ghebreyesus said. The low level of vaccination will also affect the workload of hospitals, he noted.
The HEAD of WHO recalled that information about the easier flow of "omicron" is misleading. Those infected with it also end up in hospitals and die.
