The World HEALTH Organization has called for the development of new vaccines against covid-19 , follows from the publication of a new strategy for vaccination in response to the distribution of new sub-variants of "omicron".

“While vaccines have saved countless lives, they have not significantly reduced the spread of COVID-19. Innovation is needed to develop new vaccines that significantly reduce transmission and provide broader and longer-lasting protection.

The organization insisted that country leaders continue to invest in research and development to make effective and easy-to-use vaccines such as nasal sprays.

WHO noted that doctors saved 19.8 million people in the first year of using COVID-19 vaccines. They have given more than 12 billion doses to people all over the world and achieved an average coverage of 60% of those vaccinated.

Meanwhile, vaccination rates among older people and healthcare workers in low-income countries have been found to be insufficient (28% and 37% of those vaccinated, respectively). The organization urged country authorities to vaccinate at least 70% of the population at risk and 100% of citizens at the highest risk in order to reduce the death rate.
