A new variant of the EG.5 'Eris' omicron coronavirus strain is rapidly spreading around the world, the World HEALTH Organization (WHO) has warned.
The EG.5 strain was registered on February 17th. Since then, “there has been a steady increase in the share of reported cases around the world,” the organization said.
The frequency of detection of this mutation has increased from 6.2 to 11.6%, Rospotrebnadzor notes . Now a new variant of the omicron strain has been identified in 51 states, the spread of this variant is observed in CHINA, the usa , Great Britain , countries of Europe and Asia.
“In Russia, the EG.5 variant has not yet become widespread, however, there are risks of complicating the epidemiological situation with covid-19 associated with its spread,” the Russian service acknowledged.
The first isolated cases of EG.5 infection were detected in Russia in April in Moscow, Moscow region, St. Petersburg , Magadan and Irkutsk regions, Krasnodar Territory, the republics of Buryatia and Khakassia. A total of 17 cases were identified between April and August.
Symptoms of the disease strain "Eris" are the same as in the previous variants: cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat and chest tightness.
