Two members of Australia's water polo team have tested positive for CORONAVIRUS and are in isolation in Paris ahead of the 2024 Olympics . These are the first cases of infection among athletes at the current Games. “I must emphasize that we treat covid the same way we treat other infections such as influenza. This is not Tokyo,” Anna Mears, HEAD of the Australian Olympic team delegation, said at a press conference.
She noted that the rest of the water polo team will wear masks and adhere to social distancing measures, and all close contacts have been tested.
The French government and the World Health Organization (WHO) said the country is seeing only a moderate increase in COVID cases. “There is no great risk of a cluster,” said Health Minister Frederic Valletou. — Of course, COVID is already here. We are seeing a slight increase [in incidence]. But we are nowhere near what we saw in 2020, 2021, 2022.”
Valletu added that wearing a mask is not mandatory as the number of cases is still low.
The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
