France allowed an increase in the number of cases of COVID up to 250 thousand per day

The new coronavirus strain "omicron" is at least three times more infectious than "delta" and other variants of SARS-CoV-2. This was announced at a press conference by French Minister of Health Olivier Veran, reports Le Parisien.

According to him, due to the spread of “omicron”, by early January, the number of cases of COVID-19 infection in the country could reach more than 250 thousand per day.

At the same time, the delta variant continues to spread in France, Véran added. According to him, the country "faced two waves at the same time, which are caused by different strains and require different measures to combat them." The Minister called vaccination a key way to overcome the pandemic.

On December 25, France registered 104.6 thousand cases of coronavirus infection per day, which was a record since the beginning of the pandemic. Against this background, the authorities recommended that fully vaccinated French adults receive a booster shot after three months.
