French authorities will require children from the age of six to wear masks in public amid a sharp increase in cases of infection with the omicron strain of CORONAVIRUS. This is stated in a government decree posted on the portal of documents of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The obligation to wear a protective mask, which is referred to in this decision, applies to persons aged six years and older,” the document states.

Previously, the requirement to wear masks applied to children aged 11 and over.

The decision will come into force on January 3. Children will need to wear masks from Monday, in particular, in public institutions, churches, catering establishments, transport, sports grounds, covered markets and train stations.
