Foreign tourists visiting Thailand in October-March will be able to extend their visa-free stay, said Tavisilp Wisanuyotin, a spokesman for the National Center for covid-19 Situation Management (CCSA), according to the Bangkok Post.
“This will help increase tourism spending, revive the economy and reduce the impact of the pandemic,” he explained.
Citizens of 18 countries receiving a visa on arrival in Thailand will be allowed to double their stay from 15 days to 30 days. Tourists from more than 50 countries, including Russia, who can stay in the country for no more than 30 days without a visa, will be able to stay for up to 45 days.
The Thai authorities hope that the increase in the number of tourists will help boost the economy. This year the country expects to attract 10 million foreign tourists.
