Bavaria cancels Oktoberfest for the second time due to COVID-19

The Oktoberfest beer festival, which traditionally takes place in autumn in Munich, will not take place again due to the CORONAVIRUS pandemic. This was announced at a press conference by the Prime Minister of Bavaria Markus Söder and Mayor of Munich Dieter Reiter, reports Deutsche Welle.

They explained this decision by the unpredictable situation with covid-19 and called it unrealistic to hold a beer festival in compliance with the mask regime and social distance between the participants.

Söder and Reiter added that a later cancellation of Oktoberfest would have caused even more economic and image damage to the organisers.
