Wearing a mask can give a false sense of security, and it's worth remembering that it's more about protecting those around you than the wearer. This was stated by RBC leading researcher of the Federal Research Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine Alexander Chepurnov.

“The mask protects others from you more than you from others,” Chepurnov said.

The doctor said that, according to modern research, a large percentage of infections are caused by so-called super-spreaders - socially active and physically healthy people who can endure the entire disease or its onset without symptoms. At the same time, they move a lot and are in contact with others, due to which they are able to infect a large number of people.

“Superspreaders are literally a few percent of those infected – usually physically healthy people. And the only way to limit the potential for infection in this case is to wear a mask that simply extinguishes this “exhaust,” he added.
