On Friday, May 21, the temporary coronavirus hospital at Lenexpo received its first patients. The hospital is being deployed on the territory of the exhibition complex for the third time since the beginning of the pandemic due to an increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in St. Petersburg. For the first time since February, a department with 96 beds was opened at Lenexpo, if necessary, their number will be increased to 295.
Today, 13.2% of beds for coronavirus patients are free in city hospitals. Almost a quarter of patients (21%) in hospitals are in serious condition. There are 194 people on ventilators. Over the week, the number of reported new cases of COVID-19 increased by 18%. Doctors interviewed by RBC Petersburg believe that it is too early to call the situation catastrophic, but there will most likely not be a summer respite in the fight against the virus.
Alexander Abdin, managing partner of Euromed Group, permanent member of the St. Petersburg Governor's Health Development Council:
“There is definitely no disaster. The incidence is growing slowly, not in the form of a tsunami. Those who did not get sick in the second wave get sick. The virus finds the remaining free niches. So I want to warn you: it will not work out. All epidemiologists and immunologists talk about it. The virus will find everyone. Until you have been ill or vaccinated, you are dry logs for the fire of the epidemic. There is only one conclusion - we must look at the super-successful experience of Israel and the small republic of San Marino, where 90% were vaccinated, and there is no virus, it is gone.
Until you have been ill or vaccinated, you are dry logs for the fire of the epidemic.
