Japan records highest number of new COVID-19 cases since pandemic began

The country recorded 14,207 cases of coronavirus infection per day. The previous record was set on July 31, when the number of cases in the country reached 12,337.

In Tokyo, where the Olympic Games are now taking place, the maximum number of cases per day was also recorded - 4166 new cases. On July 31, in the capital of Japan, over the past 24 hours, there was also a record of 4058 infections.

Due to the worsening epidemic situation in Tokyo, a state of emergency is in effect until August 31, which implies a ban on the sale of ALCOHOL in catering establishments and a restriction on the admission of spectators to mass events. Anti-coronavirus restrictions have also been tightened in Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa and Osaka prefectures. Later, the Japanese government announced plans to declare a state of emergency in these areas.
