WHO advised not to use the concept of waves for the COVID-19 pandemic

Around the world, there is an increase and decrease in the number of cases of CORONAVIRUS infection, but we must not talk about waves, but carefully watch when the rise is in order to stop it, said Melita Vujnovich, representative of the World HEALTH Organization (WHO) in RUSSIA, in an interview with radio station "Moscow speaking" .

According to Vujnovic, WHO experts do not use the term “wave” because it is an analogy with the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918, when the third wave almost passed, immunity was sufficient, after which it was all over.

“We are now seeing around the world, not only in Europe, that there is an ups and downs. Of course, here I am ready to agree with Rospotrebnadzor that we should not talk about waves, but look very carefully when there is a rise, ”said the WHO representative.

According to her, the covid-19 pandemic  is “not a flood” when a wave comes from somewhere. “The virus is here with us. It depends on the behavior of people,” Vujnovic added.
