Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said the country's authorities hope to return Formula 1 racing to Istanbul in 2026, NTV reports.
A tender for the management of the Istanbul race track will be held in April.
"We set a very important condition in the tender: bringing Formula 1 to Istanbul by 2026. The necessary investments have already been made. Very ambitious companies are interested in participating in the tender. The winner will be the one that guarantees the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Turkey starting in 2026. It's crucial that such events are held in Istanbul," Ersoy said.
The Turkish Grand Prix was part of the Formula 1 calendar from 2005 to 2011.
The stage was then removed from the calendar for financial reasons, but due to major schedule changes due to the pandemicDue to covid-19, the race has temporarily returned to the schedule in 2020 and 2021.
