A new strain of CORONAVIRUS has been discovered in Brazil, its origin is still unclear, G1 reports,
citing a scientist from the State University of São Paulo in Botucatu, vice president of the Brazilian virology community, João Pessoa Araujo.

A new type of infection was detected for the
first time in a sample from the city of Itirapin in the state of São Paulo, it also spread to the city of Porto Ferreira.

Whether the new strain is more contagious and more dangerous than the "regular" virus is still difficult to know, notes G1.

The new variant of covid-19 has been designated P.4. It is related to the P.1 strain found in the city of Manaus. The latter, like P.2, which spread in Rio de Janeiro, comes from the Brazilian strain B.1.1.28.
