More than 12 thousand cases of COVID-19 were detected in Russia for the second day in a row

As of July 31, over the past day, 12,498 new cases of CORONAVIRUS infection have been detected in RUSSIA, according to the headquarters for combating this disease.

The day before, 12,248 new cases were recorded in the country, thus, their number exceeded the threshold of 12 thousand for the first time since April. 

Over the past day, 982 people were hospitalized, 38 patients died. The total number of cases in Russia during the entire period of the pandemic is more than 18.6 million, the number of deaths is more than 382 thousand. However, according to Rosstat, the total number of deaths from covid-19 by May this year was more than 815 thousand people - this is taking into account cases where the coronavirus was not the main cause of death.

The largest number of recent cases of infection was registered in Moscow - 3773, followed by St. Petersburg (1596) and the Moscow region (1258). In other regions, the number of new cases ranges from 0 (Nenets Autonomous Okrug) to 311 (Krasnodar Territory).

In July, after three months of decline, the incidence of COVID-19 began to rise again. If at the beginning of July the daily increase was at the level of about 3 thousand, then from the middle of the month a rise began - from 4 thousand and more. Compared with the beginning of July, by the end of July, the incidence increased almost four times. The Kremlin called the growth in the number of new cases "alarming."

Despite the increase in the spread of the virus, the Russians are not yet in favor of the return of the mask regime, which was canceled throughout the country only on July 1. According to a survey conducted by the job search service SuperJob, 23% of Russians supported the re-introduction of wearing masks, while 48% opposed.
