In Russia, for the first time since September 2020, less than 5 thousand cases of COVID were detected

For the first time since the beginning of September 2020, doctors in RUSSIA have detected less than 5,000 new cases of CORONAVIRUS infection per day. The number of hospitalized compared to the previous day decreased by 17.9% and amounted to 1 thousand people.

Over the past day, 4,531 new cases of coronavirus infection were registered in Russia, with this diagnosis, a thousand people were admitted to the hospital, which is 17.9% less than the day before, according to the operational headquarters.

Over the past day, 101 deaths have been recorded due to coronavirus. 5,014 people recovered, which is 15.9% less than the previous day, the operational headquarters notes. 

The last time the increase in new cases of covid-19 was less than 5 thousand at the beginning of September 2020, on September 3, 4995 cases were registered. 

According to the number of recorded cases of coronavirus infection, as of May 10, St. Petersburg is in first place (309 cases), Moscow is in second (237 cases), Tatarstan is in third (195 cases), followed by Volgograd (162 cases) and Chelyabinsk region (155 cases). In the Magadan region, as well as in the Nenets and Chukotka autonomous regions, not a single new case of covid was detected.

At the same time, Rospotrebnadzor allowed the return of the delta strain of coronavirus to Russia. According to the agency, from April 19 to May 4, the share of the delta strain in Russia increased from 0.5 to 2%. The HEAD of the scientific group for the development of new diagnostic methods based on sequencing technologies of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Kamil Khafizov, explained that while immunity to the “omicron” and its family is increasing in the world, the “delta” or its descendant may return, since immunity against such strains the population is weakening.
