For the first time since March, more than 37 thousand people infected with coronavirus were detected in Russia

During the day, 37,607 cases of CORONAVIRUS infection were detected in RUSSIA, follows from the data of the operational headquarters. The last time the figure was higher on March 14, when 41,055 cases were recorded.

The leader in the number of infections among the regions is Moscow (8555), and the number of new infections in the capital has decreased compared to the previous day (9080). Next come St. Petersburg (4127), Moscow Region (3136), Krasnodar Territory (1233).

In 24 hours, 65 covid-19 deaths were recorded in the country , 3349 people were hospitalized (2.3% more than the day before). 21,887 patients have been discharged from hospitals.

On August 18, the operational headquarters reported 35,809 cases per day. The increase in the incidence resumed in Russia a few days after the authorities lifted all anti-COVID restrictions in early July.

The level of herd immunity in the country is declining: it was 7.4% against the target of 80%. On August 18, the Stopcoronavirus.rf portal suspended the weekly publication of data on the level of herd immunity, citing the need to revise the calculation model due to the emergence of new variants of the virus.

The HEAD of the Ministry of HEALTH, Mikhail Murashko, urged Russians to resume wearing masks and re-vaccinate. He called the rise in the incidence "the next stage" of the pandemic. On August 13, Rospotrebnadzor ruled out the introduction of coronavirus restrictions at the federal level and described the current situation as not critical.
