In Russia, for the first time since June, more than 60 deaths from COVID-19 were detected per day

Over the past day, 60 people have died from coronavirus in Russia, according to the data of the infection control headquarters. The last time more than 60 people died from COVID-19 in a day was at the end of June: according to information as of June 25, 61 people died then.

The number of new cases in the country is 16325. After the rise in incidence to more than 20 thousand per day on August 7, it falls for the second day in a row. 2574 people were hospitalized over the past day, which is more than twice as high as the day before.

Most new cases were detected in Moscow (4781) and St. Petersburg (2639). In other regions, there are no more than 1 thousand cases: more than 500 - only in the Moscow region (694), more than 100 - in 27 regions. Deaths were registered in 22 regions (17 in Moscow, 12 in St. Petersburg, in the rest - 1-3).

In total, almost 18 million 750 thousand infections have been detected in the country since the beginning of the pandemic, almost 383 thousand people have died, according to the operational headquarters. At the same time, Rosstat publishes other mortality statistics: it includes both those who died directly from COVID-19 and those who were diagnosed with it at the time of death.

According to these statistics, since the beginning of the pandemic until June this year, the coronavirus has directly or indirectly led to the death of more than 820 thousand people. Since the beginning of 2022, the death rate from COVID-19 has been declining: if in February there were 43.5 thousand deaths, in June - 5 thousand.
