Russian scientists have begun developing a vaccine to prevent rotavirus infection in children, the press service of Rospotrebnadzor reports.

“The development and production of a domestic inactivated rotavirus vaccine will be of great importance for import substitution, as well as for export to foreign friendly countries,” the report says.

According to the press service of the department, employees of the Rostov Research Institute of Microbiology and Parasitology are developing the drug.

In the near future, they will conduct preclinical studies of the vaccine, the Rospotrebnadzor added.

Currently, such foreign rotavirus vaccines as RotaTeq ( USA ) and Rotarix (Belgium) are used in practice.
