Children most often tolerate infection with "omicron" in a mild form, less than 1% of them become seriously white. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the Deputy DIRECTOR for Clinical Work of the Moscow Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. G.N. Gabrichevsky Rospotrebnadzor, DOCTOR of Medical Sciences Tatyana Ruzhentsova.

“Children carry a CORONAVIRUS infection caused by the Omicron strain, most often in a mild form <...>. Severe course is observed in less than 1% of children. Of all pediatric patients with covid-19 , only 3% are hospitalized. Among them are children in a state of moderate severity and children with chronic diseases that require additional medical supervision,” she said.

The doctor noted that compared with previous waves of COVID-19, minors have more pronounced symptoms of inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, including a runny nose, sore throat and cough. Patients also experience fever, weakness, headache, and lack of appetite, and some experience diarrhea and rash.

Ruzhentsova also clarified that the symptoms of "omicron" in children appear, as a rule, on the second or third day after infection. According to her, now schoolchildren are most often ill, both in the group of 7-14 years old and 15-17 years old, which is associated with their active communication, contacts in schools and outside educational institutions.

At the peak, daily incidence rates can be very high,” said Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

Since February 6, in Moscow, school classes and groups in kindergartens have canceled quarantine for coronavirus for people who have been in contact with patients with COVID-19. The operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus explained that this was due to the decision of Rospotrebnadzor on the abolition of quarantine for people who had contact with patients with COVID-19. At the same time, at the initiative of the parents of the class or group, the current quarantine can be extended to the previously prescribed period, the headquarters added.
