The pace of vaccination in RUSSIA “leaves much to be desired,” including because there are and always have been people in the country who oppose vaccinations, said Alexander Gorelov, DIRECTOR of research at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.
“Unfortunately, there are some lagging behind the rates of vaccination that we would like to have in our country. As of yesterday, 24 million people were vaccinated,” he said at the conference “Infectious Diseases - Actual Problems, Treatment and Prevention,” Interfax reports.
At the same time, Gorelov noted that the observed paradox requires an explanation. “On the one hand, the variety of vaccines, on the other hand, the pace of vaccination leaves much to be desired.” He attributed this, among other things, to the anti-vaccine movement, which "has existed at all times."

As of May 16–18, it turned out that almost 14 million people in Russia had already received at least one dose of the vaccine. The number of Russians who completed the full course of immunization - who received both components of the vaccine - was at least 9 million. At the same time, some regions, including Moscow, did not disclose fresh data on vaccination with a second dose.
