“During a seasonal exacerbation, accompanied by copious discharge from the nose, and sometimes tearing, the virus can be washed out of the upper respiratory tract without having time to bind to receptors on the cells of the respiratory tract of the human body,” she explained.

Pshenichnaya added that if the virus did join, taking inhaled steroids can alleviate the course of the disease.

The expert warned that all this is just a hypothesis that can only be assessed during seasonal exacerbations of allergies.

Earlier, the director of the Institute of Immunology of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of RUSSIA, Musa Khaitov, said that patients with allergies get sick with COVID-19 less often than usual, scientists have not yet formulated an exact hypothesis about this. “About a year and a half has passed since the beginning of the pandemic, but from the very beginning there was evidence that patients with allergies are less likely to get coronavirus infection,” he said.
