Rospotrebnadzor called the age of children especially dangerous with “omicron”

The omicron variant of the CORONAVIRUS is especially dangerous for children between the ages of two and five. This was announced by Deputy DIRECTOR of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology (TsNIIE) of Rospotrebnadzor Alexander Gorelov, reports TASS.

In children of this age, the coronavirus occurs with damage to the upper respiratory tract and bronchi, he noted. For the first time, they have cases of bronchiolitis that require hospitalization.

According to the MSD medical guide, it is an acute viral infection of the lower respiratory tract that usually affects children under two years of age. With bronchiolitis, wheezing and respiratory failure develops.

He also said that every third child, when infected with "omicron", suffers from diarrhea. If a mother had a coronavirus during pregnancy, a child may be born with a delay in the pace of neuropsychic and physical development, Gorelov pointed out, citing data from foreign studies. However, it is reversible with proper rehabilitation, he noted.
