Weather conditions are not decisive in the spread of CORONAVIRUS, Mikhail Lebedev, a leading expert at the CMD Center for Molecular Diagnostics of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, told TASS.

“The main route of transmission of coronavirus infection is airborne, with close and fairly long contact between people. And when implementing such a path, weather conditions are not of decisive importance, ”he said.

On the positive side of hot weather, people tend to spend more time outdoors, which to some extent slows down the spread of covid-19 . Also, in heat, the coronavirus quickly breaks down on surfaces. However, Lebedev recalled, the transmission of the virus through surfaces is one of the ways of infection.

Earlier, Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy DIRECTOR for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, did not rule out a connection between hot weather and a decrease in the intensity of COVID-19 circulation. However, obligatory condition remains the observance of anti-epidemic measures.
