A sharp increase in the incidence of CORONAVIRUS infection ( covid-19 ) has been recorded in St. Petersburg . According to the data of the federal operational headquarters for combating the pandemic, over the past day, June 14, 902 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the city. The last time the city passed the mark of 900 cases daily was in mid-March.

In total, 452,497 citizens have been officially diagnosed with covid since the beginning of the pandemic. Independent studies, meanwhile, show that about half of the city's residents had had coronavirus by the spring of 2021.

As for the increase in the incidence, it resumed in April. At that time, from 700 to 800 cases of coronavirus were registered in the city every day, in May the figure crossed the mark of 800. Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation in Smolny, it was decided to re-profile a number of city hospitals to receive “covid” patients. Despite this, doctors and citizens talk about many hours of queues for ambulances in front of medical facilities. According to doctors, patients have to wait for 5-8 hours.

In order to slow down the spread of the infection, St. Petersburg officials again tightened the anti-virus regime. In particular, from June 17, the work of public catering establishments will be limited in the city, including on the territory of Euro 2020 fan zones. In addition, shopping centers will prohibit entertainment and leisure, with the exception of water parks, aquariums, cinemas, libraries and fitness centers.
