The chief state sanitary DOCTOR for St. Petersburg, Natalia Bashketova, has ordered employers who hire foreign citizens to provide a clean-up vaccination against measles. The document was published on the website of the city administration of Rospotrebnadzor.
We are talking about foreigners who have not been ill with measles, have not been vaccinated, have “a titer of antibodies to the measles virus below the protective level according to the results of the examination.” Vaccination must be done by December 31, 2023.
Bashketova noted that the epidemiological situation in the city has worsened since the beginning of this year. So, from January to April, 31 cases of measles were confirmed, 13 of them among children. In eight cases, the disease was imported. At the same time, isolated cases of infection were observed from 2020 to 2022.
Last week, the HEAD of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, announced the complication of the situation with the incidence of measles in the country, it was detected in 44 regions. The agency attributes the increase in cases of infection to the flow of migrants from neighboring countries. From the beginning of April until the end of the year, the regions were instructed to carry out clean-up immunization against the virus, including among foreigners.
Clean-up immunization refers to the vaccination of unvaccinated and previously unill, as well as once vaccinated children and adults. Clean-up immunization is carried out to strengthen herd immunity and contain the spread of infection.
Measles is transmitted by airborne droplets. Symptoms include fever up to 40 degrees, runny nose, dry cough, conjunctivitis, rash.
Measles vaccinations are given twice: for children at the age of one year (vaccination) and at six years of age (revaccination). In addition, immunization is required for all adults under 35 years of age who have not previously been vaccinated.
In Moscow, due to an outbreak of measles, students of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas. THEM. Gubkin, and students in the main building of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) were transferred to distance learning. A case of measles was also identified at the Moscow Polytechnic University.
