The head of the Office of Rospotrebnadzor in St. Petersburg, Natalia Bashketova, reported a significant increase in the incidence of coronavirus in the past two weeks. According to her, the epidemiological situation in the city is tense, but it is under control, since in most cases COVID-19 is diagnosed in adult patients, and the clinical picture resembles SARS (or the disease is completely asymptomatic).
“There are few hospitalized, pneumonia has a slight increase, and the asymptomatic form and acute respiratory infections have almost quadrupled,” Bashketova said on the air of the St. Petersburg channel. The burden on doctors is small, however, as the head of the St. Petersburg Rospotrebnadzor notes, the situation is complicated by the spread of infection by asymptomatic carriers.
As for collective immunity, it has noticeably decreased in the city. According to Bashketova, at the moment it is 16.6%. The specialist recommended that Petersburgers get vaccinated and wear masks on public transport, especially people over 65 and those who suffer from chronic diseases.
The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, in turn, did not rule out the return of "anticoid" restrictions if the residents of the city are not vaccinated. “Recently, we have seen an increase in the incidence. People are returning from holidays. In many regions and in other states, all sanitary restrictions have been lifted. New strains are emerging, and the number of antibodies has significantly decreased in those who have previously been ill with covid and vaccinated. <...> Now it is especially important to get vaccinated and revaccinated for everyone who has no medical contraindications. Nobody wants to return to the mandatory wearing of masks and other strict measures to counter the epidemic,” Beglov said on Radio Russia.
