The risk of infection in the city increases, experts say

Petersburg authorities are concerned about the sharp increase in the incidence of CORONAVIRUS infection. As reported in the certificate of the interdepartmental city coordinating council to combat the spread of "covid", "the risk of contracting covid-19 is increasing."

If growth continues

The council reported that in the city, compared with last Wednesday, the registration of new cases of COVID-19 in medical organizations increased by 11.38%. In addition, the daily hospitalization of adult patients with covid-associated conditions increased by 46.69%.

Due to the increase in the incidence, the city authorities even decided to reopen the infectious diseases hospital at Lenexpo. In addition, from May 21, the city hospital 38 named after N.A. Semashko will resume receiving infectious patients. According to Smolny, by May 20, 5,543 beds have been deployed in St. Petersburg for patients with COVID-19 and community-acquired pneumonia. Of these, 721 beds (13%) are free. The proportion of seriously ill patients in coronavirus hospitals is 22% (189 patients are on mechanical ventilation).

If the increase in the incidence in the city continues, the authorities will be forced to tighten coronavirus restrictions, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov said earlier.

Vaccine against the new wave

Officials noted that the only reliable way to protect against the disease and its severe consequences is vaccination. According to Smolny, 632,212 people have been vaccinated in St. Petersburg over the entire period, of which 533,174 have completed the vaccination cycle. Over the past 24 hours, 5,390 people were vaccinated primarily, and 6,871 people were secondarily vaccinated. The city's stock of vaccine is 174,970 sets of doses. The council also clarified that on May 19, 6,480 sets of doses of the EpiVacCorona vaccine were received at the city farm base. The HEALTH Committee has published a list of addresses where you can get vaccinated with this drug.
