The UN responded to the demand to let the vaccinated people to the meetings of the General Assembly

UN Secretary-General António Guterres does not have the authority to force delegates from member countries to show evidence that they have been vaccinated against the CORONAVIRUS. This was announced during a briefing by the official representative of Guterres Stefan Dujarric.

Earlier, authorities in New York, where the UN headquarters is located, said that everyone who will attend meetings in the UN General Assembly Hall next week must confirm that they have been vaccinated against covid-19 .

“The Secretary General does not have the power to force delegates to do anything,” Dujarric said.

He noted that UN headquarters staff who interact with journalists or diplomats are required to be vaccinated. According to spokesman Guterres, a total of 519 people in New York among UN workers fell ill with a coronavirus infection, as far as the organization knows, none of them infected others during their work.
