Belarus does not plan to use the Russian ruble as a currency within the country, but it is possible to use it in settlements with Russia on the external market, said Belarusian Finance Minister Yury Seliverstov, BelTA informs.

“This has never been discussed directly, and why do we need it?” he said, commenting on the allegations about the country's possible transition to the Russian ruble.

The minister specified that the parties are discussing the use of national currencies in foreign trade instead of the dollar. He expressed confidence that in the near future Russia and Belarus will switch in such calculations "either to national currencies or to the Russian ruble" in order to stop using the currencies of "third countries."

On March 15, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, following talks with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, said that Moscow and Minsk had decided to “get rid of the dollar” in energy calculations. He specified that now these calculations will be made in Russian rubles.
