China has reinstated a number of pandemic-era measures due to the chikungunya outbreak.

Chinese authorities have stepped up anti-epidemic measures in the southern province of Guangdong amid an outbreak of the mosquito-borne chikungunya virus, according toBLOOMBERG .

According to the agency, more than 6,500 cases of fever have been registered in Foshan City in less than a month.CHINA Daily reports that as of August 4, 7,000 cases have been registered in Foshan.

As the virus spread, authorities introduced mass testing, collected information on people's movements, and began disinfecting communities. They also required pharmacies to share customer data on those who purchased any of 47 symptomatic medications.

Although the measures taken are similar to the time restrictionscovid , the agency said there were no signs yet that authorities were considering introducing restrictions on movement.

Chikungunya is an acute infectious disease transmitted by mosquitoes. The virus causes fever, severe joint pain , nausea, fatigue, and a rash.

Additionally, Foshan launched a seven-day mosquito eradication campaign, including disinfection, community mobilization to clean up stagnant water, and promotion of the use of window screens.

In May, an outbreak of the fever was reported in Sri Lanka, and earlier, in April, in France.
