In Kazan, on Sabantuy, a vaccination station against COVID-19

will be opened. Unvaccinated citizens, persons 65+ and pregnant women are not recommended to attend the holiday. However, doctors are more afraid of a surge in intestinal infections.

Today, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan - Head of the Health Department of the Executive Committee Vladimir Zhavoronkov at a press conference at the Tatar-Inform news agency announced that tomorrow a vaccination station against coronavirus infection will be set up at Sabantuy. Citizens will have the opportunity to get vaccinated at the festival in Birch Grove in the village of Mirny.

“We do not recommend visiting Sabantuy and other mass events for unvaccinated people. There is no need to be afraid of Sabantuy, as it is held in the fresh air and at a high ambient temperature. For the virus, this temperature is uncomfortable, so there is a risk of its mass spread, but not so critical. We are more afraid of intestinal infections at this event,” said Lyubov Avdonina, deputy head of the Rospotrebnadzor department for the Republic of Tatarstan. She noted that every year at the holiday, the department notes violations of measures to prevent intestinal infections and poisoning.

Avdonina recommended that people over 65, pregnant women and those who do not tolerate hot weather do not visit Sabantuy.

Visiting the national holiday Sabantuy, citizens will have to observe the mask regime, said on June 11 the head of Rospotrebnadzor in the Republic of Tatarstan Marina Patyashina.

Last year, due to the pandemic in large cities of the republic, the Tatar folk holiday was either canceled or held online. 

Will there be restrictions

In Tatarstan, today it is not planned to introduce additional restrictions due to the spread of coronavirus, as is happening in other regions of Russia. However, according to the deputy head of Rospotrebnadzor for the Republic of Tatarstan, it is possible that preventive measures will be tightened in the future.  

“We did not lift the restrictions, did not allow the work of nightclubs. We have restrictions on mass events - no more than 100 people in the room, as well as on the occupancy of concert halls. Today we are seeing an increase in the incidence in those regions of the Russian Federation where restrictions have been lifted. At present, the situation is contained and controlled. But if we see that the situation is not improving, the number of vaccinated people is not increasing, then some restrictive measures may be introduced or those that exist may be tightened, ”said Avdonina.

Revaccination in Tatarstan

According to Vladimir Zhavoronkov, the pace of vaccination in the republic is growing, and methodological recommendations from the federal center related to revaccination will be released in the near future.

“The issue of revaccination is relevant, since six months have passed for those who were vaccinated in the forefront. Now we need to make decisions about how often we make this vaccine. Therefore, in the near future we will receive information about how long it takes and what to vaccinate, what Sputnik and Sputnik Light are in the context of revaccination, and whether it is possible to “interfere” with vaccines,” said the deputy head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The Deputy Minister noted that it is necessary to vaccinate at a rapid pace, since if part of the population is vaccinated, and part is not, this can lead to an intensification of the formation of strains with altered properties.

To date, 490,877 people have been vaccinated in Tatarstan (an increase of 10,904 per day), of which 360,935 received a second vaccination.
