Authorities in the Indian states of Rajasthan and Telangana have announced an epidemic of mucormycosis, a fungal disease known as black mold.

It is believed that this disease primarily affects those who have had a coronavirus infection. Rajasthan's chief health minister, Akhil Arora, said declaring mucormycosis as an epidemic would ensure its "comprehensive and coordinated" treatment along with COVID-19 , The Hindu reports .

According to the state authorities, there are about 100 patients with mucormycosis in the region, a special unit has been allocated for them at Sawai Man Singh State Hospital.
