Gamaleya Center Plans to Test Sputnik V on Cancer Patients

In RUSSIA, trials of the Sputnik V CORONAVIRUS vaccine on patients with oncological diseases in remission may begin before the end of the year. This was told by the deputy DIRECTOR of the developer of the drug, the Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. N.F. Gamalei Denis Logunov at the New Knowledge marathon, TASS reports.

“Currently, we and our colleagues are planning a protocol, a synopsis of a project for clinical trials of oncological patients has been prepared. I really hope that we will start before the end of the year,” he said.

Logunov explained that chemotherapy, which is prescribed in the treatment of cancer patients, seriously affects the human immune system. Therefore, it is not yet possible to speak unambiguously about the effectiveness of Sputnik V in such cases.

Andrey Kaprin, chief oncologist at the Ministry of HEALTH, told TASS that testing the vaccine for cancer patients could take about six to seven months. Research will be conducted on volunteers.
