The Gamaleya Center explained the reduction of the quarantine period for coronavirus

Reducing the period of isolation for patients with covid-19 to seven days is due to the peculiarities of the omicron strain, said in an interview with the Govorit Moskva radio station, a virologist of the Center. Gamaleya Anatoly Altshtein.

“The incubation period has been reduced for this virus and the course too. Apparently, we have data that in seven days the vast majority of people will not have virus isolation, ”he said.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, at a meeting of the coordinating council for the fight against coronavirus, announced a reduction in the isolation period for patients with COVID-19 from two weeks to one. She explained this decision by optimizing the approach to quarantine and laboratory testing of citizens, while noting that monitoring of the situation continues and, if necessary, the timing can be adjusted again.
