Britain announced plans to build seven nuclear power plants by 2050 because of Ukraine

The UK authorities plan to build seven nuclear power plants by 2050 to strengthen the country's energy independence, Minister for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Quasi Kwarteng said in an interview with The Telegraph newspaper.

“When it comes to energy, we have to think 30 or even 40 years ahead. If we fast forward to 2050, it will be a world where we in the UK have six or seven venues. It won't happen in the next two years, but it's definitely something we can aim for," he said.

According to the newspaper, on April 7, the country's authorities plan to publish a new energy security strategy. According to this document, the government will have to allow the construction of at least two large nuclear power plants by 2030.

"By the end of this decade, nuclear power will definitely feature prominently in the British energy mix," a government source told the paper. The publication claims that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Kwarteng want to more than triple domestic electricity generation using nuclear power plants - from 7 to 24 GW by 2050.
