On Saturday, May 29, demonstrations took place throughout Brazil against the government of the head of state, Jair Bolsonaro, and his policies to combat coronavirus, according to the portal G1.Globo.

Protests were held in all 26 states and in the federal district. According to The Guardian, they were held in at least 200 cities and towns, it was the largest anti-government action since the beginning of the spread of coronavirus infection.

The protesters called for the purchase of vaccines against COVID-19, for the provision of emergency assistance to the population, for the return of the social support program during the pandemic, for the observance of the rights of citizens to education and health care. Some of the demonstrators carried signs calling for Bolsonaro's impeachment.

According to Reuters, the protests took place peacefully in most cities, with the exception of Recife in the north-east of the country, where the police used tear gas and rubber bullets against the protesters.
