A new rise in the incidence of COVID-19 in St. Petersburg is accompanied by other symptoms of the disease than in previous waves. As Deputy Chief Physician of the S.P. Botkin Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital Maria Vashukova said on the St. Petersburg TV channel, now people with coronavirus are less likely to lose their sense of smell.

“We are now seeing more pronounced intoxication than in previous waves. Greater weakness, greater intoxication syndrome. The temperature may not be as high as we have seen before. This is a very pronounced weakness, very pronounced general intoxication syndromes, ”said Maria Vashukova.

According to Vashukova, COVID-19 is now in a less severe form, unlike previous waves, patients do not have serious damage to the lung tissue. At the same time, she noted, cases of bronchial obstruction (respiratory failure) have become more frequent.

On August 15, 3,776 new cases of coronavirus were detected in St. Petersburg, for comparison, on August 8, 2,639 cases of the disease were detected. On August 15, 120 people with covid were hospitalized in the city. According to the latest data, a total of 2142 beds have been deployed in infectious diseases hospitals, 88 are free.
