Omicron strain of coronavirus detected in Bashkiria

Bashkiria was among the regions of RUSSIA where cases of the disease with the Omicron strain of CORONAVIRUS were detected. This was announced by the HEAD of the country's Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, at a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council under the government to combat the spread of covid-19 on Tuesday, January 11. The regional department of Rospotrebnadzor RBC Ufa confirmed the detection of "omicron", without disclosing the number of registered cases.

“Omicron cases have been registered today in 13 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. First of all, of course, these are the capital regions. These are Moscow, the Moscow Region, the Rostov Region, St. Petersburg, the Perm Territory, the Murmansk, Leningrad, Oryol, Orenburg Regions, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Ingushetia, the Ryazan and Nizhny Novgorod Regions,” said the chief sanitary DOCTOR of Russia.

As Popova noted, as of January 10, more than 563 thousand cases of the disease with the Omicron strain were registered in the world. Since December 20, the number of countries where infection with this variant of the virus has been recorded has increased ninefold. In Russia, 305 cases have been identified to date, the first was registered among citizens who returned from South Africa on December 6. The Chief Medical Officer stressed that omicron is more contagious than previous variants of COVID-19, has a shorter incubation period and spreads faster.

According to the Minister of HEALTH of Russia Mikhail Murashko, a study by the Gamaleya Center and the Italian Spallanzani Institute showed that revaccination of patients with Sputnik Light gives good virus neutralization and protects against the new strain of COVID-19.

“Therefore, today we strongly recommend revaccination for patients who have been ill, including those previously vaccinated. Despite a number of statements that Omicron does not give as severe a course as Delta, I want to inform you that, unfortunately, this is not the case, ”said the head of the Ministry of Health.
