Coronavirus can spread throughout the human body and remain in it for several months. This conclusion was made by scientists from the US National Institutes of Health, their study was published in the journal Nature.

Experts noted that some patients who recovered from severe covid-19 subsequently suffer from a “long covid”: the virus continues to affect the cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems. To find out how widely the coronavirus spreads outside the respiratory apparatus and how long it takes to leave the body, scientists opened and studied the bodies of 44 infected people.

It turned out that the virus spreads widely throughout the human body, even in cases where COVID-19 is asymptomatic or mild. Already in the initial stages of the disease, the virus multiplies in tissues outside the respiratory system.

"In addition, we detected SARS-CoV-2 RNA in multiple anatomical locations, including brain regions, up to 230 days after the onset of symptoms," the study notes. The scientists emphasized that there was practically no inflammation outside the lungs.
