Scientists evaluate the effectiveness of masks in the fight against COVID-19

Scientists analyzed a number of studies and assessed how effective measures such as wearing masks,hand washing and social distancing

Wearing masks reduces the spread of CORONAVIRUS by 53%, researchers at Monash University in Australia and the University of Edinburgh have found. The study was published in The BMJ.

The authors analyzed more than 30 other scientific papers on the effectiveness of measures to combat coronavirus. In particular, these are six studies that have examined the relationship between wearing masks and reducing the incidence of covid-19 . A total of almost 390 thousand people took part in them, 2.6 thousand of whom were diagnosed with coronavirus.

According to these studies, wearing masks reduces the incidence of COVID-19 by 53%, the scientists found.

Maintaining social social distance, in turn, reduces the spread of coronavirus by a quarter. Regular handwashing also reduces morbidity by 53%. However, due to the paucity of relevant studies, the researchers did not consider these data to be statistically significant.
